William Butler Yeats (1865–1939) was an Irish poet, playwright, and mystic who played a central role in the Irish Literary Revival and co-founded the Abbey Theatre. His poetry evolved from lyrical Romanticism to a more modern, symbolic style, as seen in works like The Second Coming and Sailing to Byzantium. Awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1923, Yeats remains one of the most influential poets of the 20th century.
